COATING SPECIFICATIONS

 Part 1: General

Qualifications:

A.  Contractor shall be an established company regularly engaged in the installation of epoxy floor systems.

Part 2: Products

Installed materials shall be Superior Epoxies & Coatings, Inc. products specified herein.

A.  Epoxy coating, Superior Gloss shall be a two-component 100% solids epoxy consisting of an epoxy resin and hardener formulated to provide a protective and easily cleanable finish coat.

Part 3: Execution

Surface Preparation:

A.  Mechanical Cleaning: All concrete floor surfaces receiving epoxy resurfacer shall be thoroughly cleaned and prepared by shotblasting. Areas not accessible to equipment shall be mechanically scarified.

B.  Acid Etch: Surface preparation using acid etching procedures shall be performed under controlled conditions.

Application:

A.  Surfaces shall be finished with an epoxy coating in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and shall be used to achieve desired finish characteristics, ranging from smooth to heavy nonskid.

B.  Expansion and control joints: Joints shall be saw cut and filled with semi-flexible joint material.

DECORATIVE FLOORING SPECIFICATION

Part 1: General

Qualifications:

A.  Contractor shall be an established company regularly engaged in the installation of flooring systems.

Part 2: Products

Installed materials shall be Superior Epoxies & Coatings, Inc. products specified herein.

A.  Superior Quartz Binder is a 100% solids, two-component epoxy consisting of an epoxy resin and an aliphatic amine hardener. Used as a base coat and intermediate coat.

B.  Aggregate is silica-quartz granules colored with ceramically-fused, chemically inert pigments.

C.  Superior Gloss Clear and Pigmented topcoat is a two-component epoxy consisting of an epoxy resin and hardener formulated to provide a protective and easily cleanable finish coat.

Part 3: Execution

Surface Preparation:

A.  Mechanical Cleaning: All concrete floor surfaces receiving epoxy resurfacing shall be thoroughly cleaned and prepared by shot-blasting. Areas not accessible to equipment shall be mechanically scarified.

Application:

A.  Superior Quartz Binder shall be applied over primed area using calibrated notched squeegee. Back roll with a short nap roller to level.

B.  Aggregate should be broadcast to excess over freshly rolled Quartz Binder. After curing, sweep un-adhered excess aggregate from surface.

C.  Superior Quartz Binder shall be applied over surface using notched squeegee, back rolled to level.

D.  Repeat B.

E.   Superior Gloss Clear shall be applied over surface using a notched squeegee, back roll to level. Thickness of topcoat may be varied to regulate final system texture.

 TROWEL APPLIED SPECIFICATION

Part 1: General

Qualifications:

A.  Contractor shall be an established company regularly engaged in the installation of flooring systems.

Part 2: Products

Installed materials shall be Superior Epoxy & Coatings, Inc. products specified herein.

A.  Primer 171 is a two-component epoxy resin/amidoamine/hardener system.

B.  Superior Liquid Binder shall be a 100% solids liquid epoxy containing no non-reactive diluents, solvents or extenders and the hardener shall be amidoamine or amine base, containing no more than 45% inert pigments for color.

C.  Aggregate shall be a washed and dried silica sand having proper gradation to provide maximum reinforcement. The combined aggregate, pigments or inert filler combination, when mixed with Superior Liquid Binder shall not exceed a ration of 4.5 to 1.

D.  Superior Gloss is a two-component epoxy consisting of an epoxy resin and hardener formulated to provide a protective and easily cleanable finish coat.

 

Part 3: Execution

Surface Preparation:

A.  Keying: Where epoxy resurfacing does not extend continuously from wall to wall, a key, a ˝” wide by ˝” deep, shall be cut around the perimeter of the area to be resurfaced. Keying shall also be performed at doorways.

B.  Mechanical Cleaning: All concrete floor surfaces receiving over-layment shall be thoroughly cleaned and prepared by shot-blasting.

Application:

A.  Primer 171 shall be applied to the prepared concrete substrate at a rate sufficient to result in a complete wetting out of the concrete with no dry areas.

B.  Superior Liquid Binder mixed with the proper amount of aggregate shall be applied to the primed substrate before the primer is totally cured so as to permit molecular cross-linking.

      1. The mixture shall first be spread by hand, using steel trowels.

      2. The mixture shall then be hand or machine-troweled to a minimum thickness of 3/16” above the highest point of the floor.

C.  Superior Gloss (Optional) can be used to achieve a desired finish ranging from smooth to heavy nonskid.

D.  Coving: Epoxy-based coving shall be installed to extend 2”, 4” or 6” up from the floor. Coving material shall be hand-applied using a radius trowel.
